Class Subjects records which classes take which subjects, for example that JHS 2 takes Mathematics, English Language and French. You can assign many subjects to many classes in one go, and mark the optional ones as electives.

Assign subjects to classes
- Click Assign Subject.
- Under Classes (select one or more), click each class to select it, for example JHS 1, JHS 2 and JHS 3. Use Select all or Clear to speed things up.
- Under Subjects (select one or more), click each subject those classes take.
- Click Assign Subjects.
Every selected subject is added to every selected class. If some pairs were already assigned, a message tells you how many were made and how many were skipped. Nothing is doubled up.
Tip: Assign the core subjects to a whole level at once, then add each class’s extra subjects separately.
See one class’s subjects
The list shows every class’s subjects together. Choose a class in the box next to Assign Subject to show only that class; choose All classes to see everything again.
The cards at the top show the total number of assignments, how many classes and subjects are covered, and Classes Without Subjects: classes that still have no subjects at all.
Mark a subject as elective
Tick Elective on a row to mark that subject as optional for that class. It saves straight away; if it can’t be saved, the tick goes back and you see a message.
The elective mark is used where core and elective subjects are treated differently, for example the best-six aggregate in Analytics (core subjects plus the best electives) and report card designs that list core and elective subjects separately.
A subject can be elective in one class and core in another, because the tick belongs to the class’s row.
Remove a subject from a class
Click the bin on the row and confirm Remove this subject from the class?. Only that class loses the subject; the subject itself stays on your list in Subjects.
Good to know
- This screen doesn’t say who teaches a subject. Assign teachers to their classes and subjects in Teaching Staff.
- Applying a starter template in Streams & Classes assigns every template subject to every template class. Review the list afterwards.
- To remove a subject from many classes, you remove it row by row. Filter by class to find the rows quickly.
- If a remove seems to do nothing, refresh the page and check again.
